 What is GNH?

Gross National Happiness (GNH) measures the quality of a country in more holistic way and believes that the beneficial development of human society takes place when material and spiritual development occurs side by side to complement and reinforce each other.

 Contributors to GNH

The 4th King of Bhutan, HM Jigme Singye Wangchuck, promulgated GNH since the beginning of his reign in 1972. Happiness of the people was made the guiding goal of development

Bhutan's former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, who opened up Bhutan to the age of modernization coined the term GNH- he used the phrase to signal his commitment to building an economy that would serve Bhutan's unique culture based on Buddhist spiritual values.
